The FTA is the overriding regulator of all railway and metro schemes across the UAE
- UAE railway law ready by 2016
- New laws in line with GCC neighbours
The UAEs new federal railway laws will be ready in 2016 says director general of the Federal Transport Authority (FTA) Salem al-Zaabi.
Speaking at MEEDs MENA Rail and Transport conference in Dubai on 6 October, Al-Zaabi said In order to study it carefully we set a group of consultants and stakeholders from all over the emirates. We are now in the last stage and by next year it will be ready.
We discussed with all our stakeholders to ensure it is in line with our GCC neighbours.
The FTA, which was established in 2006 to replace the Ministry of Communications, is the overriding regulator of all railway and metro schemes across the UAE.
Al-Zaabi says that in the absence of a comprehensive railway law, the authority has been providing ad hoc authorisation for railway and metro schemes such as the Dubai Metro and Tram.
