UAE further reduced oil production in January

The emirates’ output of 2.85 million b/d is lower than its December figure

The UAE reduced its oil production to about 2.85 million barrels a day (b/d) in January, which is a sign of its commitment to the international agreement between oil producers to slash crude output to bring poise between global demand and supply.

According to a report by news agency Reuters, the UAE’s January output is lower than the 2.86 million b/d it produced in December 2017, as per official figures available with the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec).

Under the global deal to curb supplies, the UAE's output target is 2.874 million b/d.

Compliance with the deal to reduce output by 1.8 million b/d to agreed to by Opec members and a group of 11 non-Opec oil producers led by Russia, has exceeded targets in recent months. However the UAE's adherence has been lower because it is using a higher baseline for its output reduction than the one required by the agreement.

But the UAE, which will hold Opec's presidency next year, has been curbing oil exports as a way of adhering to the pact.

State-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has been reducing supplies to customers since the start of the year.
