Al-Barari Development – Phase 1 Infrastructure works
Entrant: Corodex Industries
Project owner: Al-Barari
Project contractor: Corodex Industries
Engineering consultant: Eflo International
Description: Founded in 2005, Al-Barari is the first environmentally sustainable residential development of its kind in the region. The developer has selected Corodex Industries and Eflo International to build wastewater treatment plants at the development, which will use the innovative submerged aerated and non-aerated bio-filter methods (EfloSAF and EfloSNAF).
It will also use other processes such as screening, settling, filtration and disinfection in order to remove physical, biological, organic and chemical contaminants. The project aims to treat raw sewage water and use the treated sewage effluent (TSE) in unrestricted irrigation for landscaping and the supply of waterways and canals in projects.
TSE typically contains 20 milligrams of nitrates in the form of nitrogen in each litre, but this concentration is still high and can lead to algae growth when discharged into the sea. The technologies provided in the scheme will resolve this problem by reducing the level of nitrates in TSE to less than five milligrams a litre.
