Engineering group to provide technical services to refineries and petrochemicals plants

UK-based Amec Foster Wheeler has won a three-year contract to provide technical services to Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic).

The deal covers services to the state-owned group’s Mina al-Fahal Refinery in Muscat and facilities in Sohar including the refinery, and aromatics and polypropylene plants.

The scope of Amec Foster Wheeler’s contract covers specialist process and technology engineering support, process safety improvement and maintenance programme support for the refineries and chemical plants.

This includes an expert helpdesk service to trouble-shoot plant processes, optimise production, reduce energy and utilities costs and improve plant reliability, safety and environmental performance.

Orpic is currently expanding the capacity of its Sohar refinery, having awarded a $2.1bn engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project in November 2013.
