US airforce launches raids in Baghdad

In a move that marks a change in US military strategy in Iraq, the US airforce launched a number of raids on targets in Baghdad. US officials said that Hercules aircraft were used to strike suspected guerrilla targets that were used to 'meet and plan [insurgency] operations'. At least two Iraqis were killed in the operation.

A US soldier was killed when was vehicle is hit by roadside bomb in Baghdad. The death brings to 156 the number of US soldiers killed in action in Iraq since President Bush announced the end of major combat operations in the country on 1 May.
