Masterplan updated every three years

US consultant CH2M has been awarded the final consultancy package on the update of Qatar’s national transport masterplan for the Transport & Communications Ministry.

Called package 2, it entails the project management of various elements of the transport masterplan review.

Three packages have already been awarded on the project:

  • Package 1, which entails data collection, went to the UK’s Groundsure;
  • Package 3, which comprises an update to the Qatar Strategic Transportation Model, was awarded to Italy’s Italconsult;
  • Package 4 entails updating the masterplan itself and was awarded to a joint venture of Australia’s WorleyParsons and Germany’s PTV.

The four packages are estimated to be worth a combined QR100m ($27m).

PTV developed Qatar’s previous transport masterplan, which covered the years 2006-16.

The update of the masterplan is considered overdue. A consultant tells MEED transport masterplans are typically updated every three years in markets with rapidly growing populations.
