Studies are underway for the expansion of the terminal by up to 1.2 million cubic metres. The port will have between four and six new berths added.
The board’s decision comes in addition to the plan under way to add 380,000 cubic metres in capacity and two berths. These projects will be commissioned in January next year.
Ultimately, the expansion will bring capacity at the terminal to a total of 2.7 million cubic metres, with between 10 and 12 berths capable of handling vessels up to 175,000 deadweight tonnage. The expansion is planned for the north side of the terminal and its conceptual design has already started.
