Weatherford wins Oman oil services contract

17 May 2009
US-based Weatherford Oil Tools Middle East has won a long-term oilfield services contract in Oman.

The contract was awarded by the local Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), and covers drilling, well intervention, and the provision of artificial lift technologies to improve the flow of oil from a number of fields in southern Oman.

In particular, Weatherford will develop the Amal field using steam-based oil recovery techniques.

The contract is evergreen, which means it is renewed automatically at the end of a pre-agreed period unless one of the two parties wishes to terminate it.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

Weatherford has operated in Oman for over 20 years.
