Geophysical firm Westerngeco, part of US-based oil field services firm Schlumberger has won a major 3D seismic survey deal in Kuwait worth $225m.
The contract was signed on 2 February with state-owned Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC), according to the local Al-Seyassah newspaper.
Seismic surveys are expected to begin in the third quarter and will last two years, covering the neutral zone in coordination with Chevron Saudi Arabia.
In a statement Sheikh Ali Hamoud al-Sabah, KGOCs vice president for financial and administrative affairs said the survey will cover an area of 4,612 square kilometres, the largest in Kuwaits history.
Along with the size of the area, the survey also faces challenges as it covers producing fields, farms and marshes.
