UK-based company to provide steel structure for Abu Dhabi smelter’s third potline
UK-based William Hare Structural Engineers has won a contract to provide the steel structure for the expansion of Emirates Aluminium’s (Emal) smelter.
The work forms part of Emal’s $4.5bn second-phase expansion project at the facility in Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
The project includes the addition of a third potline to increase the smelter’s aluminium capacity to 1.3 million tonnes a year (t/y) from 750,000 t/y.
William Hare will fabricate the steel structure for the new potline using raw materials provided by Emirates Steel, according to an Emal statement.
Emal is in the process of financing the second phase expansion.
