UAE satellite operator caters to high-definition demand
Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) has signed a strategic partnership with Yahlive, a partnership company of Al-Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), the UAE’s satellite operator.
Through the deal, DMI will deliver six of its channels delivered in high definition (HD) through Yahlive’s satellite service and will be made available to the Middle East & North Africa (Mena) region.
“The growing demand for HD television programming by the region’s viewers means that the industry is at a tipping point ad broadcasters know they need to deliver their content to audiences in HD or be left behind,” says Mohamed Youssif, chief executive officer of Yahlive.
Broadcasting in HD requires three to four times more satellite capacity than standard definition.
Yahlive has also partnered with the region’s biggest broadcaster MBC to launch some of its channels in HD.
