Yemen’s Electricity & Energy Ministry has granted an extension for expressions of interest from consultants to advise on a 60MW wind farm in Al-Mocha on the western coast.

Interested parties now have until 21 July to respond, instead of the original 6 July deadline.

The adviser will assist the owner in carrying out bid clarifications, evaluation and negotiations with prospective developers.

They will also assist the ministry in the drawing up of the basic and detailed designs for the project and supervise the implementation of the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract, as well as operation and maintenance of the project.

The project includes supply, delivery and installation of wind turbines, civil works and electrical works necessary for grid connection. Overall project implementation is expected to take 24 months.

A full service operation and maintenance contract with the EPC contractor will be signed for a period of at least three years.

The Washington-headquartered World Bank has committed to assist in the financing of the project. The World Bank is also working on a series of traditional power plants in the country. Yemen intends to develop three independent power projects, with a total generating capacity of 375MW, for which it has invited developers to bid.
