Sanaa set to improve roads and traffic congestion
Yemen’s Public Works & Highways Ministry is inviting consultancy firms to submit expressions of interest in preparing a $50m urban transport plan for Sanaa.
The services for the Second Rural Access Project include preparing a transport plan that will integrate different modes of public transport and preparing a traffic circulation plan for the city.
The deal also involves plans for creating dedicated bus lanes which would also include preliminary engineering, pedestrian routes and improved parking facilities.
The winning consultant will also draw up institutional and legal measures, as well as training plans for improving the planning and management of urban transport in Sanaa.
The Yemeni government has applied for additional financing from the International Development Association (IDA) to help pay for the project. The IDA is part of the World Bank and is responsible for providing loans to poorer countries.
Expressions of interest must be submitted by 21 February.
