Saudi power plant being built by Samsung C&T

Japanese firm Yokogawa has been awarded a subcontract to supply control systems for the Rabigh 2 independent power project (IPP), located north of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

The work involves supplying control systems to operate and monitor the plant facilities, including the three 700MW gas turbines, exhaust heat recovery boilers and steam turbines. Yokogawa will also provide engineering support for installation, commissioning, and operator training. Delivery is scheduled for the middle of 2015.

The Rabigh 2 IPP is being developed by a consortium consisting of the local Acwa Power and South Korea’s Samsung C&T, which is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.

The combined-cycle power plant, due for completion in 2017, will have a total capacity of 2,100MW.
