Yousef al-Horr
Position: Founder and chairman, Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (Gord)
Biography: Yousef al-Horr is the founder and chairman of Gord, which was established to develop the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System and promote energy-efficient building practices throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
The organisation is a non-profit subsidiary of state-owned Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company. Al-Horr previously held several senior positions at the local Barwa Real Estate Company, including president of strategy and investment, and deputy chief executive officer for operations. Al-Horr also worked as the assistant vice-president for research affairs at Qatar University.
In 1996, he graduated with a master’s degree from George Washington University in the US. In 2000, Al-Horr completed a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in the UK.
