Biography: Ziad al-Labban took up his current position at Sadara Chemical Company on 1 October 2012. Sadara Chemical Company is a $20 billion joint-venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical Company and is currently building the world’s largest petrochemical plant to be built in a single phase.
Al-Labban was responsible for overseeing the phase two expansion of the petrochemicals facility at Petro Rabighwhere he was CEO until late 2012. This was planned to process an additional 30 million cubic feet a year of ethane and 3 million tonnes a year (t/y) of naphtha. PetroRabigh is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical.
Al-Labban joined Saudi Aramco in 1982 after graduating in electrical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. His roles have included vice-president of corporate planning for Petron Corporation in the Philippines and chairman of Saudi Aramco’s insurance subsidiary, Ovincor.
Prior to working at Petro Rabigh, he was president and CEO of Aramco subsidiary Saudi Refining Incorporated in the US. Al-Labban has a master’s degree in petroleum engineering from the US’ Stanford University.
