Nuclear and hospital projects are approaching completion
Abu Dhabi has released details of the progress on two of its biggest ongoing projects - the $20bn nuclear power scheme, and the $1bn-plus Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.
For the Barakah nuclear project, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation CEO Mohamed al-Hammadi says: All four units at Barakah are some 70 per cent complete, an amazing achievement, considering that we started construction a mere four years ago.
A South Korean consortium comprised of Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco), Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Samsung Corporation won the contract to the nuclear power plant in December 2009.
For Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) said 87 per cent of the work at the AED4bn ($1.1bn) Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City has been completed, prior to its being handed over to Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha) in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The contract to build the hospital in the Mafraq area was awarded the local/Australian Habtoor Leighton Group and South Africas Murray & Roberts in 2011.
