Saudi developer acquires firm that submitted lowest tariff under Ammans feed-in-tariff programme
Saudi Arabias Acwa Power has acquired a 50MW solar independent power project (IPP) in Jordan.
Acwa Power acquired Sunrise Solar Energy, which was recently awarded the 50MW photovoltaic (PV) solar project in Jordan in the second round of Jordans Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources renewable energy feed-in-tariff programme.
Sunrise Solar Energy signed the power purchase agreement (PPA) and connection transmission agreement (CTA) with Jordans National Electricity Production Company (Nepco) on 20 January 2016.
Sunrise Solar Energy submitted the lowest tariff under Jordans renewable energy programme to date, with the 4.34 JDcents a kWh equal to a tariff of 6.13$cents/kWh.
MEED recently reported that Saudi Arabias Fotowatio Solar Renewable Ventures/Abdul Latif Jameel Energy and Saudi Oger/ Modern Arabia Solar Energy (Mase - local) had also signed the PPAs for the projects under the second round.
The plant will be located in Mafraq Development Area, located about 50km north east of Jordans capital city Amman. The project will be built adjacent to the second and third projects awarded under the second round of Jordans renewables programme, and together will form a 150MW PV solar complex.
