Adnoc seals sulphur sale deal with Moroccan firm

World’s largest exporter of sulphur will supply its produce to OCP until 2025

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has announced a long-term sales agreement with the OCP Group of Morocco (OCP) for supplying granulated sulphur.

Under the agreement, Adnoc, arguably the world’s largest exporter of sulphur, will supply its produce to OCP, the largest worldwide sulphur importer, until 2025, although the financial value of the contract was not revealed.

According to a media statement, the two parties have agreed to consider a gradual increase of the contracted annual volumes. Adnoc exported more than 2 million metric tonnes of granulated sulphur to Morocco in 2016.

The press release also mentioned that Adnoc and Casablanca-headquartered OCP, which have been doing business over the years, will also ‘explore various opportunities for a larger cooperation’.

As a by-product of its sour gas operations, Adnoc Group companies combined produce more than 6 million tonnes of sulphur annually, exporting it to customers from its sulphur handling facilities in Ruwais.

The amount of sulphur available for export will increase over the next decade as the UAE NOC brings new sour gas projects on line, as part of its plans to achieve gas self-sufficiency by 2030.

Abu Dhabi also plans to double its sulphur production from 6 million tonnes a year over the next decade, MEED reported towards the beginning of the year.
