Air Arabia appoints chief executive for Moroccan business

13 July 2009

Air Arabia has announced the appointment of Jason Bitter as chief executive officer for its new Moroccan operation, which launched in May.

Bitter resigned from his previous job as chairman of Slovakian-based low-cost carrier, SkyEurope Airlines, in July. He also has experience as chief operating officer of India’s budget airline, SpiceJet.

Air Arabia (Maroc) is a joint venture between the Sharjah-based airline and the local carrier Regional Air Lines. The project is backed by Bahrain’s Ithmaar Bank.

Operating out of its hub in Casablanca, the new airline currently flies to eight destinations, including London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona and Istanbul.

In May, Air Arabia reported net profits of AED103m ($28m) during the first quarter of 2009, an increase of 32 per cent compared to the same period in 2008 (MEED 11:5:09).
