Al-Hani/Sinohydro consortium bids low for Kuwait University faculty projects

Nine groups submit bids for main construction package

The local Al-Hani Construction & Trading Company/China’s Sinohydro Corporation has submitted the lowest bid of KD143.6m ($524m) for the contract to build the College of Business and the College of Women at Kuwait University’s new Sabah al-Salem campus.

The price was marginally lower than the KD143.7m price submitted by the second-lowest bidding consortium, the local Al-Sager General Trading & Contracting with India’s Shapoorji Pallonji. The consortium of the local Mohamed Abdulmoshin al-Kharafi & Sons General Trading & contracting with China’s Hina Cezhouba Group Company submitted the third-lowest price of KD149.8m.

Nine consortiums made up of local and international contractors submitted bids for the project on the 4 July.

The approximate built-up floor area of the College of Women is 117,000 square metres, while the built-up area of the College of Business is 124,700 sq m.

The university recently received bids for the project to build the College of Science and Faculty Club at the Sabah al-Salem campus. The local Khalid Ali al-Kharafi & Brothers Construction Contracting Company in joint venture with China’s Metallurgical Construction Corporation submitted the low bid of KD185m ($675m).

When completed, the Sabah al-Salem integrated campus will comprise more than 25 faculty buildings. It will include a 600-bed hospital, car parks with space for more than 32,000 vehicles, dormitories, sports facilities and auditoriums (MEED 8:7:11).
