There are four contracts that form the New District of Doha Pumping Station & Outfall scheme

Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has invited construction companies to submit prequalification documents by 14 August for four construction contracts that make up the New District of Doha (NDOD) Pumping Station & Outfall scheme.

The first contract involves the design and build of a deep pumping station with a capacity of about 35 cubic metres a second (cm/s), as well as associated operational and control buildings and a large-diameter tunnelled sea outfall, including marine diffuser head/array dispersion assembly.

The second contract covers the design and construction of the eastern tunnel, which is about 27 kilometres (km) of 3-5 metre internal diameter tunnel with 23 shafts. The depth varies from 18 to 55 metres.

The third contract is for the design and build of the western tunnel, which is 17km of 4.5-5 metre internal diameter tunnel with 11 shafts. The depth ranges from 18 to 45 metres.

The fourth contract entails the design and construction of a deep pumping station with a capacity of about 25 cm/s, as well as associated operations and control buildings and wetland balancing lagoons with a total volume of 270,000 cubic metres.

The consultant working on the project is Halcrow, which is part of US-based Jacobs.

Transmission pipeline contracts

In late 2020, Ashghal awarded two treated sewage effluent (TSE) transmission pipeline contracts.

Local contracting company Aljaber Engineering was selected for the QR217m ($59m) contract for the construction of a TSE transmission pipeline along Dukhan Highway and the main TSE network along Orbital Road, and between Dukhan and the North Doha sewage treatment works.

A joint venture of local firms Urbacon Trading & Contracting Company (UCC) and Infraroad was selected for a QR298m contract for the design and build of the TSE line catering to the Wakrah and Wukair areas.

Aljaber and UCC are two of the most active contractors working for Ashghal.

Ashghal is one of Qatar's most active project clients. According to regional projects tracker MEED Projects, it has completed $47.4bn-worth of projects and has another $28bn at the execution and pre-execution phase.
