Construction work on Ammroc to begin in January 2014

Facility will have an estimated investment of about $800m

Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Aersopace is planning to begin construction on its Advanced Military Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Centre (Ammroc) in January 2014, MEED’s Abu Dhabi Conference 2013 was told on 10 December.

Speaking at the event, Homaid al-Shemmari, executive director, Mubadala Aerospace, Communications Technology & Defence Services said that work on the estimated $800m project would begin “next month.”

Mubadala Aerospace is currently in final negotiations with a contractor to build the project.

The Ammroc facility will be located at Mubdala Aerospace’s Nibras Al-Ain Aersopace Park. The Nibras park is being developed in 9 phases and will cover a total area of 25 square kilometres. The park is expected to create 10,000 jobs to be created by 2030.

Mubadala Aerospace was created in 2002 by the Abu Dhabi government as part of the emirate’s economic diversification efforts.

In November 2013, Mubadala secured a total of more than AED43bn ($11.8bn) of deals for the UAE’s aerospace and defence sector.
