Ministry selects firm for naval base construction scheme

The scheme covers the construction of up to 169 buildings and associated facilities at the new naval base

The Defence Ministry is understood to have selected local firm Generic Engineering Technologies (GET) for the contract to construct buildings and infrastructure for the new naval base at Hamad Port.

The contract value is $800m, according to MEED Projects data. The work covers the construction of up to 169 buildings, landscaping services, fit out and other associated facilities.

The New Port Project (NPP) Tender Committee originally structured the scheme into three separate packages.

In addition to GET, firms understood to have submitted a bid for the contract include:

  • Bahadir Construction Engineering (local)
  • China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) (China) / Al-Bandary Engineering (local)

  • Qatar Building Company (local)
  • Redco Almana (local)
  • Sinohydro (China)
