Local contractor will build Jabal al-Akhdar resort

The local Dawood Contracting Company has been awarded an estimated OR14.1m ($36.7m) contract to build the Jabal al-Akhdar hotel resort in the sultanate.

The client, the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran), awarded the deal to the local contractor after receiving bids from eight contractors on 30 October. The hotel will be operated by the Singapore-based Alila Hotels & Resorts Group.

In March 2010, UK-based Atkins was awarded a OR752,000 ($1.95m) contract to design the hotel resort. The hotel will consist of two main buildings and a cluster of two-story buildings with guest accommodation.

The front of the main buildings will contain restaurants, bar and kitchen facilities. The rear section of the main building will contain housekeeping, laundry and security facilities. Guest rooms will be divided into two-storey buildings containing four or six units.
