German firm will service and maintain Jebel Ali desalination plant for next 15 years
The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) has awarded Germany’s Siemens a AED2bn ($562m) maintenance contract for gas turbines and power generators at one of its largest power generation and desalination plants in the emirate.
The long-term maintenance programme (LTMP) contract is for a duration of 12-15 years and will involve the maintenance of six gas turbines and six power generators at the Jebel Ali power generation and desalination station.
As part of the contract, Siemens will provide manpower, equipment and spare parts required to overhaul the turbines and generators to be operational for approximately 100,000 hours. The parts provided will include turbine blades and vanes.
This is the second contract that Siemens has been awarded by Dewa in 2012. In March, the utility awarded Siemens a contract to build a high-voltage substation at Mushrif. The contract covers the provision and construction of 132kV switchgear, power transformer, shunt reactors and a full monitoring system for the 132/33kV substation.
The substation will replace existing transmission and distribution infrastructure owned by Dewa.
