Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has opened the bids from six consultancy firms for the contract to supervise the design and construction of a cargo express village at Bahrain International airport.
The bidders and their financial offers are:
- Unanime Architectes Gulf (France/Bahrain): $5.42m ($132,978 – option 2)
- Egis International (France): $4.72m ($2.94m – option 2)
- Consolidated Engineering Company / Khatib & Alami (Lebanon): $4.89m ($2.66m)
- Parsons (US): $9.14m
- Dar al-Handasah (Lebanon): $10.42m
- ADP Ingenierie (France): $11.14m
The project covers the development of warehouses and aircraft parking along with associated infrastructure.
The scope of works for the selected consultant includes the development plan, design management and development, project coordination, technical support during the tender, and project supervision during the scheme’s execution.
In February, MEED reported that Bahrain was planning to appoint a partner for the contract to set up a new cargo facility near Bahrain International.
The new facility will feature warehouses and other logistics facilities, augmenting the capacity of the existing cargo facility located adjacent to Bahrain International, a source familiar with the project said.
According to the source, the study is complete and land at the proposed new location has been allocated.
The capacity of Bahrain’s Khalifa Bin Salman Port, located just 13 kilometres from Bahrain International, is currently being expanded with the installation of new equipment.
The port saw a 21 per cent increase in cargo volumes and a 7 per cent increase in container volumes in 2017.
Construction of the new $1.1bn passenger terminal at the airport is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2019.
