EXCLUSIVE: Bidders wait for metro project management award

31 July 2018
Client sought for firms to project manage the extension of Doha Metro’s two lines earlier this year

Consultancy firms that submitted a bid for the project management services contract for the Doha Metro Green and Red Line North extension projects are still waiting for the contract to be awarded.

MEED understands bids were submitted in April, following the incorporation of the Al-Khor metro station into the Green Line extension PMC package.

Qatar Rail, the project client, received bids for the contract to build a metro station in Al-Khor as part of the Doha Metro Red Line North extension on 29 July.

MEED understands the groups that submitted a bid include:

  • FCC (Spain) / Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)
  • Porr(Austria) / HBK Contracting (local) / Midmac (local)
  • Rizzani de Eccher (Italy) / Redco International (local)
  • Salini Impregilo (Italy) / SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea)
  • Yapi Merkezi (Turkey) / STFA (Turkey) / Al-Jaber Engineering (local).

The Al-Khor metro station will link with the Al-Bayt stadium, which is being built for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Turkey’s Tekfen Construction was awarded the contract to build track works for the Red Line North extension.

The works will extend from the under-construction Red Line North to the planned metro station in Al-Khor.

The track follows the same alignment as the $2.1bn Al-Khor Expressway, which Tekfen won in 2016. The expressway is expected to be completed in 2019.

Qatar Rail received bids for the main contract to extend the Doha Metro’s Green Line in December last year.

Firms that submitted a bid for the contract are understood to include:

  • Aktor (Greece) / Larsen & Toubro (India) / STFA (Turkey) / Yapi Merkezi (Turkey) / Aljaber Engineering (local)
  • FCC (Spain) / Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)
  • Impregilo (Italy) / SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea) / Galfar al-Misnad Engineering & Contracting (local)
  • Porr (Austria) / Sixco / HBK Contracting (local)
  • QDVC (France/local) / GS Engineering & Construction (South Korea) / Al-Darwish Engineering (local)
  • Rizzani de Eccher (Italy) / Lotte E&C (South Korea) / Redco International (local).

Contractors tell MEED they expect the client to award the contract before the end of 2018.
