Bahrain Airport Company is the client for the $1.1bn new terminal building at Bahrain International airport. The contract was awarded to a team of the UAEs Arabtec Construction and Turkeys TAV in January 2016.
Other packages have been awarded this year. They include the information and communications technology package that was secured by Frances Thales and Geneva-headquartered Sita, and contract for the construction of a fuel farm and connecting pipelines that was awarded to the UAEs Amana.
In February, BAC received prequalification documents for the infrastructure and construction packages of the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) at the airport.
The same month, it awarded Frances ADPI the contract for the design and supervision of the airports air traffic control centre (ATCC).
Bahrain also plans a $10bn new airport on a reclaimed land, which could be developed in partnership with the private sector.
MEED understands development on the new airport could start once the new passenger terminal building at the current airport is completed in 2020.
