Gaddafi reshuffles cabinet

08 March 2004
Tripoli announced a limited cabinet reshuffle on 6 March. The key changes are the restoration of the Energy Ministry, abolished in 2000, and the replacement by Mohammed Ali Hwij of Ajili Brini as Finance Minister. The recreation of a ministry to oversee the energy sector is widely viewed as being linked to the likely easing of US sanctions and the potential re-entry of American oil companies to the country. Four other new ministries were established in the reshuffle, for culture, national security, training and labour, and youth and sport. Justice Minister Mohammed Mosrati lost his job to Ali Omar Abu Bakr.
