Gaza death toll passes 200

17 July 2014

Israel said it is also considering a ground invasion into Gaza

Over 200 people have been killed by Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since the launch of its air assault on 7 July, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

One Israeli civilian death has been reported since Israel and Hamas started engaging in a cycle of rocket attacks into Israeli towns and airstrikes on Gaza targets. Israeli officials have also warned that they are considering a ground invasion into Gaza if the rocket attacks do not stop.

Israel and Hamas agreed to a five-hour truce on 16 July to allow aid to Gaza, where over a 1,000 civilians have been injured by the air strikes.

Israeli-Palestinian conflicts have increased after the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers, which was followed by the revenge killing of a Palestinian teenager. That prompted heavy violence and protests in east Jerusalem and northern Israel at the beginning of July and tensions on the Gaza border.
