Abu Dhabi Gas Industries installing compressor station at gas network in Taweelah

German engineering group Siemens has been selected to construct a gas compressor station in Abu Dhabi, according to sources familiar with the project.

Project owner Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) plans to establish a compressor station at Taweelah – located between Abu Dhabi and Dubai cities – connected to the company’s existing gas network.

Siemens has been selected by Gasco for the project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work. Abu Dhabi-based Chiyoda-CCC Engineering Limited (CCEL) is also thought to have submitted a bid.

Taweelah is the UAE’s entry point for the undersea Dolphin Energy pipeline, which imports gas from Qatar. The compressor station will increase the flexibility of Gasco’s distribution networks, allowing the company to increase the amount of gas distributed to specific end users.

The value of the EPC contract has not been disclosed. It is likely to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

MEED reported in 2015 that Netherlands-based engineering group Tebodin was awarded a conceptual and design study for the project.

Gasco is a joint venture of state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), which holds a majority 68 per cent share, Shell (15 per cent), Total (15 per cent) and Partex (2 per cent).
