Under current plans the refinery will have a capacity of 100,000 barrels a day (b/d) and will be located near Ahdeb Oilfield, southwest of the city of Kut.
The project’s scope includes:
- Crude distillation unit
- Fluid catalytic cracking unit
- Isomerisation units
- Hydrocrackers
- Pipelines
- Hydrogen production unit
- Flue gas desulphurisation units
- LPG plant
- Storage tanks
- Instrumentation, control and communications systems
- Offsites and utilities
The project was first approved in 2016 before being put on hold for unknown reasons.
Under the original plans the refinery was due to be constructed using a build-operate-transfer model (BOT).
