Programme part of Amman’s efforts to boost renewable energy production throughout country

Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has invited investors to express interest in waste-to-energy (WTE) projects planned throughout the kingdom.

Investors have until 20 June to submit expressions of interest (EOI) for the renewable energy schemes. Only waste generated in Jordan will be used at the planned WTE plants.

The WTE programme is a part of a number of renewable schemes that Jordan is pushing ahead with in 2013.

MEMR recently invited companies to prequalify for the contract to build a photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Quweira, southern Jordan.

Companies submit prequalification entries in early April for the contract to build the 65MW-75MW PV plant planned for the southern area of Jordan. In addition to installing the solar plant, the contract will involve the provision of all of the required civil infrastructure works, including access and internal roads, and the provision of operation and maintenance services when the plant is completed.

The solar project is the latest of several solar energy schemes that Amman is moving ahead with as it seeks to boost the country’s power capacity. In January, firms were invited to tender for a PV solar plant at Azraq, located about 100km east of Jordan’s capital city, Amman.
