Jordan’s new terminal to be fully operational by end of March

10 March 2013

Royal Jordanian has already completed three inaugural flights

Jordan’s Queen Alia International airport’s new terminal will be fully operational by the end of March, following the transfer of all Royal Jordanian and other airlines’ flights to the building.

Three scheduled Royal Jordanian airlines have already taken off from the terminal on 3 March. The terminal is currently open for passengers flying to Athens, Doha and Sharm el-Sheikh. The transfer of all airlines will be completed by 21 March.

The new terminal increases the airport’s capacity to 9 million passengers annually, an increase from the current 3.5 million passenger capacity at the airport.

Future expansion plans could see the airport increase capacity to 12 million passengers.

The expansion of Queen Alia airport was carried out by the Airport International Group (AIG), which won the build, operate, transfer (BOT) contract in 2007.

The airport was originally scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2012, but due to some rephasing of the project, the opening was delayed.
