2016 promises $11bn-worth of road contract awards

Kuwait’s Public Works Ministry has extended the deadline for the contract to build roads and intersections on Kuwait’s southern regional road from North Kabad to Al-Salmi to 9 August.

The deadline for the submission of bids for three road projects has also been extended.

The tender for the road works from the 5th Ring Road to King Fahad bin Abdul Aziz Road at South Surra has been extended from 12 July to 2 August.

The deadline for submission of offers for the construction of roads, bridges and related sewage and sanitary networks on Cairo Street has also been extended for a month to 26 July.

The closing date for the tender to construct roads, bridges and related facilities from the existing crossroad at Al-Salmi Road up to the crossroad with the southern part of the regional road has been extended to 26 July.

At least 48 international and regional contractors and their local agents have been invited to bid for these contracts.

At $11.8bn, the total value of planned road and street infrastructure contract awards for 2016 in Kuwait will be largest ever. However, it has only managed to award $1.6bn-worth of road contracts in the first half of 2016, or under 14 per cent of the total, according to data from regional projects tracker MEED Projects.

These contracts include the $956m infrastructure package for the South Al-Mutlaa City, the $324m road works from Saad Al-Abdulla to Buhaith, and the $256m contract for road works from the 5th Ring Road to the 6th Ring road on Al-Ghouse Street.
