Libyan production hits 1 million barrels a day

28 December 2011

Full pre-war production by mid-2012

Libya is now pumping more than 1 million barrels a day (b/d) of crude oil and is expected to reach pre-civil war production levels by the middle of 2012.

The country will resume normal oil production of approximately 1.6 million b/d by the middle of next year, says Nuri Berruien chairman of state-run National Oil Corporation (NOC).

Berruien was speaking to journalists at a meeting of Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (Oapec) in Cairo on 27 December.

The newly appointed Oil and Finance Minister, Abdulrahman Ben Yezza says Libya plans to increase production to 2 million b/d over the next three to five years.

International oil companies in the country have been resuming operations after withdrawing their staff following the outbreak of civil war in March 2011. France’s Total says it will resume production by the end of the year at the Al-Jurf and Mabruk fields (MEED 21:12:11).
