Biography: Lord Woolf has had an illustrious career in international law, serving as Master of the Rolls in the UK from 1996 until 2000, when he was appointed Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, a position he retired from in 2005.
He was appointed non-permanent judge at the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong in 2003 and he continues to be a part-time judge on the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords. In February 2007, he was appointed inaugural president of the QFC Civil and Commercial Courts as part of plans to create a separate legal framework for QFC-registered firms.
The court, along with the QFC Regulatory Tribunal, is an independent body based on English law. Lord Woolf studied law at University College London and began his legal career as a barrister in Oxford. He has honorary degrees from 12 universities.
