Biography: Majid Jafar is the CEO of Sharjah’s Crescent Petroleum and vice-chairman of the Crescent Group of companies, which has operations in port management, logistics, contracting, private equity and real estate. Jafar is also managing director of the board of Dana Gas, in which, at 20 per cent, Crescent is the largest shareholder. In the past, he worked in Shell’s exploration and production and gas and power divisions.

Jafar serves on the boards of the Carnegie Middle East Centre; the Arab Forum for Environment & Development; the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce; the Sharjah Expo; the Iraq Institute; and the New Leaders of the International Institute of Education.

He has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in engineering from Cambridge University in the UK, as well as a master’s degree in international studies and diplomacy from the University of London’s School of Oriental & African Studies.
