Munich Airport to help upgrade services and facilities
Bahrain Airport Company has signed a deal with Munich Airport to help it develop Bahrain International airport.
The contract will result in Munich Airport staff offering consultancy services to help improve facilities and services at the Bahraini airport.
Bahrain Airport Company is currently expanding the capacity of the airport, at a total cost of $4.7bn.
The work includes building a second terminal adjacent to the existing terminal, which will expand capacity from 5 million passengers a year to 12 million.
A second phase of work involves building Terminal 1A alongside the existing building, and then demolishing and rebuilding the existing terminal, which will then be known as Terminal 1B.
In May 2009, US-based Hill International won a four-year contract to provide project management services for the project.
Bahrain Airport Company is expected to tender the design contract for the new terminal buildings in the first quarter of 2010.
