Iran’s Mapna Group has signed a contract to build the Jandar combined-cycle power plant in Syria.

The Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation & Transmission is the client on the project.

Under the contract, the Iranian company will build a 450MW plant at Jandar in the west of the country.

This is Mapna’s second project in Syria. It commissioned the first unit of the Tishreen combined-cycle power plant on 2 December. That new plant will have capacity of 450MW when completed, adding to 650MW of capacity already in operation at the site.

In June 2008, India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals won a contract to build another 400MW extension to the Tishreen plant.
