Japanese-led consortium will develop 100MW photovoltaic plant for Petroleum Development Oman

A consortium led by Japan’s Marubeni Corporation has signed a power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for the planned 100MW Amin photovoltaic (PV) solar plant in the southern region of the sultanate.

MEED reported in October that PDO had awarded the contract to develop the solar plant to the Marubeni consortium after evaluating proposals from eight groups.

The solar plant is PDO’s first independent power producer (IPP) project. The oil company will be the sole offtaker and will buy all of the electricity produced by the solar farm under a 23-year PPA.

The developer consortium also contains local firms Oman Gas Company, Bahwan Renewable Energy Company and Modern Channels Services.

The contract involves the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the solar plant for the duration of the PPA.
