Two-year contract covers roads and underpasses

Qatar’s Lusail Real Estate Development Company has awarded the estimated $460m CP4 infrastructure construction contract at the Lusail development to the joint venture of the local Midmac Contracting Company and Turkey’s Yuksel.

The two-year contract will involve building two sections of connecting road, south to north and east to west, for a total length of 5.2km with six lanes. The work will also involve building four underpasses and a bridge.

The Lusail development is one of the biggest real estate schemes in the Middle East. Located 22 kilometres north of Doha, the scheme covers a total area of 35,000 square kilometres and is planned to house up to 200,000 people. The development is a key part of Qatar’s World Cup plans and will accommodate the Lusail Iconic stadium, the largest sports arena for the event, with a capacity to accommodate more than 80,000 people.

In January, the developer awarded South Korea’s Samsung C&T a $296m contract to build infrastructure at the Lusail scheme. The work will involve the construction of a 10.7km-long road, which will include a 1.5km underground motorway.

Lusail Real Estate Development Company has also invited contractors to submit prequalification documents for the contract to build a 550-metre-plus tower at the Doha Convention Centre development by 31 December.
