Former president in corruption probe

Egypt’s prosecutor general has detained ex-President Hosni Mubarak along with his sons ahead of an investigation into corruption allegations.

Mubarak is currently in hospital having reportedly suffered heart problems. According to Egyptian state television, Mubarak will be detained for 15 days.

His sons, Alaa and Gamal, have also been detained amid allegations of corruption and violence.

Mubarak stepped down from office in February following popular protests across the country for his exit.

Having unseated the leader, the mass protests disbanded. A small contingent of anti-Mubarak protesters remained demanding that the ex-President face trial.

The army moved the remaining protesters and debris at Tahrir Square, the focal point of protests, in March, but people continued to congregate again by the end of the month.
