The Government of Oman wants to increase the passenger handling capacity of Muscat & Salalah International airport to seven million people a year. To do this, it is expanding facilities at the airport.

Once completed, the new terminal will cover 240,000 square metres and have a capacity of 12 million passengers a year. The airport will be managed by the Government, which plans to privatise it in future.

The project consists of five phases. For MC1, work covers the development of airside facilities:

  • Runway (4.3km in length, 60 metres wide and built to Code-F standards)
  • Upgrade of existing runway
  • Taxiways
  • Aprons
  • Landside redevelopment
  • 7 bridges / interchanges
  • 60km of access roads on the airside and landside
  • Widening of existing roads
