Biography: Nasser Chammaa has been chairman and general manager for Solidere, the Lebanese Company for the Development and Reconstruction of Beirut, since its establishment in 1994.
Solidere, a joint stock company, was founded by then prime minister Rafik Hariri to rebuild the centre of Beirut, an area of 1.9 million square metres, which was destroyed during a 15-year civil war that ended in 1990.
Prior to this, from 1983-92, Chammaa served as division director for operations and maintenance business at Saudi Oger, a Riyadh-based contracting firm, also funded by Hariri.
Chammaa has a degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Berkeley University of California in the US, and has a doctorate in operations research from the UCLA University of California, also in the US. In 2002, Chammaa founded the Children Cancer Centre of Lebanon.
