German technology firm Siemens and US-based Bentley Systems have introduced an integrated asset performance management (APM) solution targeting power plants, it was announced at Bentley Systems’ ongoing Year in Infrastructure conference held in London.
The new service will be hosted on Mindsphere, Siemens’ cloud-based internet of things operating system, and combine Bentley’s asset performance management software, called ProjectsWise, and Siemens’ complimentary technology “to take full advantage of digitalisation, which helps improve maintenance operations and planning.”
Siemens’ existing APM, which is a subset of its Omnivise portfolio, covers the entire power plant including combustion and steam turbines as well as the associated generators and pumps, motors, transformers, valves, switchgears and other equipment that affect a plant’s reliability and performance.
According to both companies, the new solution can take data from multiple sources, apply domain and analytical expertise on those data and integrate them into a plant owner’s existing computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) or enterprise asset management (AEM) system. This process is expected to result in improved maintenance planning, reduce outages and workforce efficiency.
Both firms also announced the availability of a new product called PlantSight, which enables process plant owners to build digital twin for their existing assets.
The system “enables up-to-date and as-operated digital twins, which synchronise with both physical reality and engineering data.”
“We are now ready for early adopters [for PlantSight],” says Greg Bentley, CEO of Bentley Systems, who cited that both companies have spent two years to develop the solution together.
