The long-term charter contract covers five vessels

Japan’s NYK has announced that the joint-venture companies that NYK is a part of have signed a long-term time-charter contract with QatarEnergy for five liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

These five new vessels will transport LNG to countries around the world. NYK has several ongoing projects with QatarEnergy

Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) recently secured an order for the supply of engines for 25 QatarEnergy vessels.

These vessels are part of QatarEnergy’s North Field East (NFE) project, which is claimed to be the largest-ever LNG carrier-building project.

As part of the Qatar NFE programme, two 174,000 cubic-metre LNG carriers will use the new engines.

These vessels are being constructed for TMS Cardiff Gas at South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).

Several shipowners have tendered to construct gas carriers that will run under long-term charters to QatarEnergy. The vessels are expected to be delivered between 2023 and 2027.
