Construction contract was first awarded in 2008
Local developer Omniyat Properties has received bids from contractors to complete its estimated AED800m ($218m) Opus project at Dubai’s Business Bay.
Omniyat first appointed the local/Australian Nasa Multiplex to build the Zaha Hadid designed building in 2008 before property prices in Dubai sharply declined. At the time completion was expected in early 2010. The project stalled in 2009 and Multiplex stopped working on the scheme.
The structure has been designed to resemble a cube with a hole in the middle. It will be built using three individual towers that will be connected to each other with cladding to give the appearance of one single structure. The total built-up area is 85,000 square metres.
Omniyat is not the only developer working on projects in Business Bay. In February, the local Damac Star Properties has invited contractors to express interest in the contract to build its Lotus Tower project.
