GE Oil & Gas will provide combustion system for Qatar fertiliser producer
US-based GE Oil & Gas has signed a 15-year agreement with Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) to supply parts for gas turbines.
GE Oil & Gas will supply parts for the installation of its 32K extendor combustion system, set for 2017.
The company, which has already installed turbines, compressors and pumps across Qafcos operations, says the agreement will help in scaling up the operational efficiency of the gas turbines, adding to improved plant operations and higher levels of productivity.
The agreement comes after a long-term service contract between Qafco and GE Oil & Gas was signed in 2015 to optimise the performance of Qafcos operations in Mesaieed, Qatar.
Qafco is 75 per cent owned by the governments Industries Qatar, with the remaining 25 per cent stake held by fertiliser group Yara Netherland.
Qafco has the capacity to produce 3.8 million tonnes a year (t/y) of ammonia and 5.6 million t/y of urea, making Qatar the worlds fourth-largest urea producer.
